The programme for doctoral students, announced and funded with the support of the project Call No. 02_19_073 Improving the quality of internal grant schemes at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen CZ.02.2.69/0.0/0.0/19_073/0016931

The IDEG (Internal Doctoral Educational Grant) programme is a new programme for doctoral students, which aims to develop and educate students in the areas of preparation, implementation, and evaluation of projects (i.e. soft skills, including increasing language competencies).

The implementation of IDEG projects was terminated on 12/31/2022.

In February 2023, there was an informal meeting of the implementation team with IDEG implementors. During the meeting, the experiences of the implementors were shared, and at the same time, the implementation team of IDEG provided feedback on the program setup. This feedback was valuable for future activities when it comes to the Ph.D. students support.

In February 2023, the final evaluation of IDEG projects was also completed within the Field Evaluation Panels. Afterward, the IDEG program evaluation will be given to the representatives of the units (faculties) through the Vice-Rector for Research and Development board. Based on the information summary from all participants with the pilot round implementation, feedback on the entire process of the competition (preparation, progress, termination, evaluation) will be shared with the provider.

Within the IDEG program, 14 projects were supported – 5 individual and 9 team projects – a total of 34 implementors from among Ph.D. students. The amount paid from the IGS UWB project for the project implementation within the IDEG program exceeds CZK 14 million.

Basic rules of the programme

  • Project proposals are submitted in English only.
  • Project proposals can be submitted by doctoral students at the UWB during the standard study period.
  • The maximum number of members of the implementation team is 3 doctoral students (including the main implementor).
  • In the event that the project is recommended for implementation, the UWB concludes an employment contract with the team members for the duration of the project implementation. The amount of total workload within the UWB for each of the members of the implementation team may reach a maximum of 1.2 times the working time fund of the given month.
  • Working capacity of the main implementor is 0.5 of a regular full-time position. Working capacity of co-implementors is 0.1 or 0.2 of a regular full-time position.
  • Each implementation team is entitled to a mentor, who provides methodological and professional support, and helps with planning the individual steps in implementation of the project.
  • During the project implementation, the individual and main implementor must complete educational or research activities abroad (e.g. an internship, summer school, research or educational stay) in the length of min. 14 calendar days, max. 120 calendar days.
  • Duration of projects: 19 months (from 1. 6. 2021 to 31. 12. 2022).
  • The topic of the project must not be identical with the topic of the dissertation of any of the members of the implementation team, but the project outputs may be used in the dissertation.
  • The total amount of funds for the project consists of multiples of the unit cost of work capacity (CZK 7,986 for 0.1 of a full-time position: of which CZK 4,700 is intended for personnel costs, including mandatory contributions, and CZK 3,286 for other costs). Detailed calculations of unit costs for work capacity can be found here.
  • Before submitting a project proposal, each member of the implementation team must complete the training course “How to prepare a project for an internal grant programme IDEG”. It is also recommended to complete the course “Project Management”. Both courses will be implemented within this announced “IDEG programme”.
  • Up-to-date information on these courses can be found on this page.
